    June 6 - Lacy - John 11:1-16

    John 11:1-16

So Mary and Martha sent a message to Jesus, "Lord, the one you love is sick."

How do you think Mary and Martha reacted when they learned that Jesus said, "This sickness will not end in death..." Do you think they just trusted Jesus or do you think they flipped? How would you react?

Later on the passage talks about going back to Judea and the disciples freaked out 'cause the Jews tried to stone Him before. Why do the disciples question Jesus so much? Do we?

OK - so Jesus almost never just says what's going on. So He says to them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep but I am going there to wake Him." They tell Jesus he'll get better if he sleeps. So Jesus is like, "SERIOUSLY!?!? Ok, Lazarus is dead...(duh?)"

Why do you think that Jesus doesn't just say/speak simply? why is it something to be figured out?

So Jesus takes them to believe in Him in a whole new way. Then Thomas says to the disciples, "Let us also go, that we may die with Him." Die with Jesus.

Where do you think you stand no or if you were there in this situation?

(Ok I can't remember was Lazarus the first person mentioned in the Bible who Jesus brought back to life?)

I think they flipped, because later on I remember that they were like "Don't go in there it smells."
Of course I think they also trusted him a little(?)

Anyway the "let us go with him that we may die with him." Sitting here now I can truthfully say that I would probably refuse, being there I would probably say, "Yeah come on lets go you slowpokes"!!

I don't think that Jesus speaks simply because He wants us to interpret what He has to say. Mostly I do not think there will be a RIGHT right answer or a WRONG wrong answer. Although the disciples really did question Jesus alot. I wonder why they did? Did they truly not believe in Him? Hmmmmm...

i like how chill yes chill Jesus is about the whole situation. hes just like ya i got some things to do and then we can head down there. knowing whats really going to happen but his disciples are very stressed and worried. but then Jesus says that laz is sleepin and there lik oh ok but there kinda slow so they dont know Jesus is talkin death so he has to tell them. so then they are sad and Jesus says that hes glad that it happend sothat you may believe. and they head off very good story at the end to

I think that Jesus put everything in double meaning because he had to have some sort of entrainment. The guy knew everything...sorry a little humor.. but i think that they were talking about dying with Jesus. In the subnotes of my bible it says that when Jesus was going back to Jerusalem, the deciples figued that He would be stoned and killed. So Thomas, being the doubtful one, was like "ok lets go even thought we pretty much know that Jesus will probably be killed. But we are willing to risk that and go."

I love the verse totally later on, where Jesus cries over Lazerus...but that's not in this passage- sorry- anyways! it's hard to say what I would've done. If Jesus wasn't Jesus and said, "it won't end up in death" but then it does temporarily, I would most like freak out...but it's Jesus saying it. I would trust Him- I think...I'm not sure though...
I totally question Jesus- And God- It's reassuring (a little) that his own disciples questioned him...but I shouldn't- of course.
I would want to die with Jesus...after seeing everything he had done and hearing everything he said- definately.

I think dying with Jesus would be THE highlight of my life. What a way to go out huh? Side by side with your savior...WOW! I'd be thrilled- if thrilled is the kind of word your can associate with death. But I wonder what Mary and Martha were thinking when Lazarus died, and Jesus still hadn't arrived, after he told them that it wouldn't end in death.

When it says there is twelve hours of daylight everyday, I didn't really think about it being in a day, I thought of it as seeing the light in the dark, like we have been talking about. Jesus says as long as you have the light, people can walk safely. Which applies to us in Vancouver, once again, giving the light to the dark and helping them see in the dark safely, because we have the light of the world.

It seemed to me that Jesus was kind of fishing for a miracle in that story. He waited till Lazarus was dead before he came to save him. But never the less it was an incredible miracle.
