John 9:1-17It seems like this theme of light and dark keeps coming up in these stories and teachings of Jesus....hmmm - on purpose? Major ups to everyone on picking up on this theme and, not to ruin the story, but it keeps going right to the end of this story.
So, Jesus heals a man. But He does it on the Sabbath. What was He thinking! Doesn't He know how hard the ultra-religious have been working to keep the Sabbath - wait - did I just say they were working to not work. Hmmm....can you say pot calling the kettle black?
The Pharisees were pretty upset at Jesus healing this man. Not only was He working on Sabbath, but He also destroyed their theories on punishments for sin. See, Jesus kept claiming to be able to forgive, and erase, sin but the Pharisees thought He was a possesed nut-job. So, when Jesus heals a man whose blindness, according to many of the Rabbis of the day, was due to sin -
Jesus is showing His power over sin!I've been thinking about this for a few weeks now and I think that sin has a way of overtaking people and affecting the whole of their lives. A "little" sin is like a leach that slowly sucks the life out of you. If you don't do something about it -

i really like this story becuase Jesus does all this stuff that hes not suppose to do such as working on the sabbith or healing a man that the pharasies thinks is a sinner and just turning the tables up side down. now i really dont get why he spits into the ground to make mud i think he was showing that he liked to play in the mud like a kid. but think if you were the blind man wouldnt that be the most amazing experience in your life? or if your just someone who knew the man that you were close to him crazy. i also like how the pharasises are split about what they think of Jesus and some are thinking in a positive way makes you notice that ppl can change there minds about things

I never thought about him showing his power over sin in this verse all that much before. That's pretty cool.
I also agree with James, I have seen people at school who sometimes seem like the life's being sucked out of them at times because of the sin they are commiting.

I love how Jesus seems like such a rebel all the time. When a lot of people think of christians they think of these goody-goody people, but Jesus was totally ticking these guys off, and I think it rocks. I imagine the blind man thinking to himself "oh, my gosh! God just spit on me!!" (okay, so almost...) and then he was healed.
It's incredible!

What really made me start thinking about was the fact that God puts people in our lives to witness to. Jesus said "All of us must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us." This applies to Vancouver because we are going out and witnessing, and doing the work that God has given us. It also made me think about my friends who aren't saved. I have not been doing my assignment, and disobeying God. I think going to Vancouver will help a lot.

I think that it's dumb that the Pharisees got angry with Jesus because they should have been happy that Jesus was healing someone. Of course, these are the Pharisees we are talking about and they are not happy with anyone but themselves.

Wow- These verses are soo moving and powerful. It is really so amazing to see exactly what miracles Jesus can really do. I really like the thought from James of a little sin as being a leach slowly sucking the life out of you until you do something about it. I'm sure that we can really relate this to the people in Vancouver. They probably made one mistake in their lives that led to others that ultimately let to them being homeless or in the need of our help.

it's funny that people used to think that sin was somehow passed down- like from parents to child... when it's really the opposite- that this man's blindness is used for God- like everything in our lives. "Bad things" are just used to glorify God.

so i think it is really cool that jesus helped the blind man. it just goes to show that jesus loves everyone. not just certen ppl.it must have takin a lot of guts to say to the pharisees "he is a prophet". he must have been scared that the pharisees might have he to be stoned.

I like this story because the way that the pharisees look at Jesus, you'd think he was a common criminal! And all this because Jesus is performing miracles by healing people. Incredible! Can you imagine being Jesus and getting questioned all because you helped a man to see for the first time in his entire life! I can't.

what i love about this passage is when people are asking jesus whose to blame for this guy's blindness and jesus says it's neither. this happened so that i could show you who iam (something like that). that's so stinkin coool!!! this for me will be a ever reminder that god has a purpose for our weaknesses...but for his glory not ours.
