    June 3 - Joyce - John 10:22-42

    John 10:22-42

At the beginning of these verses Jesus is questioned as to whether he is the Messiah or not. He says I've already told you but you do not believe and the miracles I've done speak louder than words. Then he starts talking about how only his sheep listen to him, and how no one can snatch his sheep from him.

But then at the end he starts saying do not believe me unless I do what my Father does and then he talks about if they don't believe him, just believe the miracles.

The last bit I think applies to Vancouver the most. It's sort of like us saying don't believe us unless we do what Jesus would do in Vancouver. I guess another way to put it would be practice what you preach.

It is extremely hard to practice what you preach. I do not know about any of you, but I have a big mouth and I need to reel it in sometimes. I agree with Joyce about how the last part applies to Vancouver because, if people saw us doing what Jesus would, be selfless and all that, they would believe in us more and not question as much as they normally would.

i dont know i could see this as Jesus kinda like beggin and almost crying sayin why dont u believe me and tellin all these points very emotional. Its like if you study for a test really hard and do really good but ppl say u must have cheated it makes you feal like crap because you will say all this stuff but no one believes u think of that like times 10 and every day of ur life man that would be hard Jesus is the man

Ok- so they dont' believe that Jesus is the Messiah and then they go and ask him pretty much exactly what He has been saying the entire time..."Are you the Messiah" and what do they expect Jesus to say.... And for some reason i really like that Jesus calls all of us His sheep...because we are His sheep. His followers. And we need to tell people about our wonderful Shepard so they will join our flock.

I love the whole sheep/sheperd comparisson. I've always loved it. It's just a really comforting thought, I think. And I agree with Mandy that it's really hard to practice what you preach.

I completely agree with Joyce because it is really important that apply what we learn in the Bible to our everyday life. It's like that little kid song, "This little light of mine." That songs teaches us to shine what we have to show God's love. We can't hide what we have. We have to show it or how can we call ourselves Christians.

in the beginning when the people ask him to just SAY that he's the Christ, he says that I have done this through works and miracles. This implies that what we do is a whole lot more important than what we say- right? Because with me, I may say that i'm fine, but my attitude and my actions prove me otherwise.

Verse 37, Jesus says don't believe me unless I carry out my fathers work. I took this as why should we believe in him, if we are not going to do anything about it, or spread his word. I think that whe nyou believe in something you should spread your beliefs, so why believe if you are not going to carry out your job. This really applies to us in Vancouver because we believe and are going to do our job/work. In my everyday life, it is hard for me to express my beliefs, and it makes me really think about how I am not doing my proper job/duty.

    Tim,
I don't think that people should be asking Jesus for direct answers because he's not going to ive them what they want to hear.

the fact that jesus uses the word "snatch" kind of goes to show i think how brutal the world really is.this is a huge promise to everyone because it says that no matter what you do or say that's wrong in the world i'm never, ever going to let this world take you away from me. in my mind i just see jesus saying that...and when he's saying it he's crying and.....wow that just makes me, not "appreciate" god but just makes me stand in awe of him so incredibly much.
