    June 17 - Tim - John 13:13-17

    John 13:13-17

At first I tought that it was talking to the Master (or the person who is better off) but got confused because it wwas actually talking to the servant saying, “Look, these people are better of than you, but chose to help you.” In that sense it’s not even talking to us, the ones who will be “the better off” ones. I see it as a message to both people; Masters, treat servants as equals; servants, be thankful and respectful because in the end they don’t have (key word) to.

“I need love, baby don’t hurt me, don’t hurt me, no more.”

How have you made yourself an “equal” lately?

    ~Tim

(james' note: congratulations to Tim for being the first to quote Haddaway on this blog. Way to go!

Is it a matter of equality??? Or is it that Jesus is saying that no servant is greater than his master = we aren't greater than Jesus, so why don't we serve others as Jesus would?

Although reading through Tim's view again, I can see how it halfway makes sense.

okay I think that it is really cool that Jesus preached about how we are all equal. But it does kind of confuse me that Jesus preached about equality and we still have problems with treating eachother like equals today. Isn't that horrible. I guess I am just trying to figure out when people are going to learn. Money doesn't make you better; intelligence doesn't make you better; what race you are doesn't make you better. When will people learn?

Never. People will never learn, because people are idiots. Equality will always be an issue, I think. People feel like they have to be better than somebody else, or else they're just not happy. It's stupid, but it's true. *sigh* We live in such a great world.
But, refering to Joyce's "no servant is greater than his master= we aren't greater than Jesus"...I get the not greater than Jesus part, but now we're back to the people trying to be greater than people problem...

Equality...something that has never been acheived in the whole span of this Earth. How sad is that, that we can't treat each other the same? Who made the masters masters? Who made the servants servants? I think it all depends on the family God decided He would place you with.

we read a book in school that was called "black like me" and it was a kinda wierd story, but the point is this man acted as a black, and why he was black the poor black ppl would give stuff to others, trying to prove that someone else needs them, such as thier better than someone else.

it happenes to everyone everywhere, even the poorer ppl do this they think they need to be better off than someone else to make them feel better about themselves. and that is really i think were going to canada, to go and show the ppl taht we are no better than them, that we just no the truth and the light and are trying to show it to them.

makeing sure that you dont look down on them on the trip but, looking at them as an equal.

its hard but its a major step if u can

I think Aaron made a good point on why we are going to Vancouver. We are there to show others that christians are not better than them and we want to show them the truth and the light. It is going to be hard to look at them as we are all equal, but in order for them to understand we are going to have to show it to them.

hah- Chels- you're hilarious! "People are idiots...they'll never learn" I totally agree with you. Probably one of the worlds' problem that no one chooses to address is equality. And I can see Tim's point in the whole, 'servants be thankful' thought. WE're all servants of God, so that means we should all be thankful for anything that he gives us- food, showers, soap...

I think it's really funny how people think there better than someone else, even though their not.not one of us is any better than our next door neighbors, whether their christian or not. in reality we are(~triple underline the word "are") equal-we just don't know it. we're all sinners. we have all betrayed christ in some little way or another(sounds harsh but true). were all, as chelsea would say "IDIOTS"!!
