    June 13 - Joyce - John 12:20-25

    John 12:20-25

Once again Jesus is forshadowing His death. And says the famous – whoever loves their life will lose it, whoever hates their life will have eternal life. To me this is sort of one of those don’t love something more than Jesus or don’t hold onto earthly things.

So what does the hate-your-life-gain-eternal / love-your-life-lose-it thing mean to you?

In this passage Jesus says that whom ever loves his life will give it up. And I think that this will affect us by well we should be giving up our life to the lord even if we do love it here. We will be able to spend eternal life with him in Heaven.

I agree that if you love your life you will lose it. For example, there are all those "popular" people in school, and HS is going to be the highlight of their lives because they will never amount to anything else. *That was rude, sorry to all popular people* But if you hate your life and are willing to give up on it you will have eternal life with God. Is that fair? Yes because everyone has that choice.

i dunno about anyone else, but it's hard to hate my life- or rather the things my life consists of. The things I can have because of who i am and where i live- it's hard to hate it. I mnea, obviously eternal life is going to be a lot better than my life currently- and I'll be able to see Jesus face to face- but...there shouldn't be a 'but', you know? i dunno- it's a tough question...but should it be a tough question to answer? Not sure...

I think I agree with Theresa. It seems really hard to hate your life sometimes. But on the other hand, I don't know if that's really what he meant. When I thik of the hate-your-life-gain-eternal/ love-your-life-lose-it I think more of an extreme case. Like if someone sticks a gun to your head and asks "Are you a Christian?" if you say no...I think that counts as loving your life.

i dont know it seems like its really a lot deeper than just what the words are saying. im not sure if its talkin about physical life or spirtiual life. when i read it to me it was talkin spiritual life, such as if you just hold on to being a christian and dont share your faith you just die, but if you go out and tell the world, and plant a seed in them of God, that they may sprout out and learn of God. I think that its more spirtiually speaking than anything else. such as go out and tell the world of Christ

I never really thought about it like that...

It seems like a lot of verses in the Bible give the message of love your life and you will loose it and hate your life and you will get eternal life. I think, because the BIble says it so often, I think it is really important to God that we learn this message. It's so important that we reach the people in Vancouver who are busy loving this horrible life on earth.

Wow, Aaron made a really good point about physical and spiritual life. I think that Jesus is just trying to tell us to love the things that we have rather than look at what we don't have and want. So if you are despising your life, you are going to have that hate for the rest of your eternal life.

It says in the bible ”do not store on earth treasures, where moth and rust destroy, but store up in heaven treasures, where moth and rust can not destroy” I think this is the same thing. We should store in jesus our treasures where we can enjoy those treasures.

"those who love their lives will lose it."...wow!i get the goose bumps when i read that.this to me goes back to the "be in the world, not of the world" thing.cling to god like there's nothing else in this world living for..and don't have any regrets.all or nothing.

the other part to me, means kind of the same thing...if you just hold on to god and lay down your stinkin pride you'll have....what. i can't really explain what i'm tryin to say..sorry.
