    June 8 - Heidi - John 11:36-44

    John 11:36-44

It is absolutely amazing how many miracles Jesus preformed. But it kinda seemed that the people were being greedy expecting Him to perform more miracles. Isn’t is also kind of crazy how Martha, Lazarus’ sister, when told to move the stone, the first thing she thinks about is the odor? I mean Jesus is gonna bring her sibling back to life!

Wow – Jesus brought a man who was dead for four days back to life! What would you think if a man claiming to be God’s son brought someone you care about back to life?

Maybe she just has a sensitive nose! JK...anyway, it is truly amazing that God brought back Lazarus, a second chance at life. Not that this life really matters in the whole grand scheme of things. But to our standards we are normally here for a long time!

If God brought my Dad back to life? I'd cry, I'd be so thankful for a second chance at learning about him. When I was younger I thought I'd have all the time in the world to learn about the person my Dad was. Now I know to not waste any minute you have because you'll never know when you will see that person again.

Yeah I think that it was more of him doing the seemingly impossible (bring someone back to life who had been dead for a few days, *not just a few hours*) gave more authority to what he said.

"Then Jesus again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb..."
Why do I get the impression that Jesus was a little upset that everyone kept expecting him to perform all of these miracles. And then when he does agree to raise Lazarus, Martha's like "but it will smell bad"... I can just see Jesus saying "seriously! I'm willing to raise your brother from the dead, and you're worried about the smell?"

I also wonder what Lazarus thought of being brought back. After being in heaven, wouldn't earth be a totally bummer?

FREAKY! I can just imagine how it must've been for Mary and Martha to see this stiff, tied up man come out of a tomb- who had been legally dead! weird weird weird! But right before Jesus told Lazerus to come out, he thanked God and prayed that this miracle might be used to witness, not only amaze. That's how I would know it was Jesus- because he wasn't doing it to boost his own name, but to give glory to God.

I think it's really interesting that the only time that Jesus raises someone from the dead is when people start to wonder why He wasn't there in the first place. I mean, Jesus was a busy guy. He was out healing the blind, broken, sick, and the sinners. I think it was really greedy of the people mourning Lazarus to just expect Jesus to be there to fix everything. Besides, God would never take anyone away unless it was their time to go.

I was extremely confused at why Martha had been begging for Jesus to raise her brother from the dead, but when he agrees to it, she doesn't seem to care anymore about Lazarus, just the terrible smell. If I were Lazarus, and heard her comment, I would have been so mad. I would be thinking" Thanks for caring, not"

    Tim,
Was Lazarus all rotted and nasty or was he healed and clean? And if was, I wonder if he realized tha he was dead for four days and was freaking out.

This just shows all of us the power of God at His best. It does really make me sad that people again had to "test" Jesus' love or power by bring Laz back to life. Before this Jesus brought two other people back to life (Jairus' daughter and a widow's son) and they still thought they had to "test" him.
