    June 10 - Cassie - John 12:12-19

    John 12:12-19

So here comes Jesus on a donkey. The fact that he’s even riding a donkey for his Triumphal Entry is fulfilling one of the million prophecies about Him! That’s incredible! Now really look at this part here (vs.17-19). The people that were back at Lazarus’ tomb were there today spreading the news about Jesus. And then the Pharisees get in their little “gang” and say to each other, “we’re getting nowhere here, the whole stinking world has gone to follow Him!”

This is so incredibly significant, I think, just the fact that a couple mobs of people were following Jesus when it was “safe,” when there was no trouble, no nothing. Then I bet at least half the people who were shouting “Hosanna” were only a couple of days later shouting, “Crucify Him!”

Isn’t that kind of what we something do when being a Christian gets “dangerous?” What are some solutions to that?

I think it's cool that Jesus rode a donkey instead of a horse. ANYONE could ride a horse but Jesus rode a donkey. That rocks.

People are idiots to be swayed so easily though. As cass said, they were shouting Hosanna and all that and a couple of days later they were ready to crucify Him.

That's true- how many times a day, a week, a month do we as Christians just follow the crowd instead of following God? Thw world is an easy trap to fall into.

First of all I think it's easier to ride a donkey than a horse, therefore anyone could ride a donkey but not a horse.

I think one of the reasons that it was a donkey was that it more humbling than riding into town on a huge horse surrounded by followers.

And T has a very good point we seem to follow the crowd when we shouldn't.

You took the words right out of my mouth! He could've come galloping into town on an incredible horse (heck, he probably could've ridden an elephant if he wanted to!) but he didn't. He came in on a donkey, of all animals. I don't see how so many people could be just adoring him one moment, then the next, they want him dead. JERKS!

maybe were focusing on the donkey to much and who is really sitting on top of the donkey. yes its cool him came in on a donkey and that it was a prophecies, so didnt ppl think that it was going to happen. i really think its wierd that we do this every year, have a palm sunday service, so it is very monumental event.

Theresa made a really good point about the world being a trap. I know of times that I have followed a crowd, rather than God. Sometimes it is really hard, but you just have to stick with him. And I agree with Aaron, I think we focused on the donkey way too much.

    Tim,
The desciples weren't very smart, were they. I would have noticed all the prphecies happening after like the first three at the least and then just watched the rest fall into place. It would have been cool to watch that all happen.

Okay think my favorite part of this passage is verse 16 when it talks about the fulfilment of prophecy. I think that is incredibly cool. I just think it is really cool that if a prophecy is truly sent by God, then there is no way it couldn't come true. This passage just reminds me that God totally keeps his promise in everything.

I really like the point that Cassie brought up: That the citizens would follow Jesus today, then want to crucify Him the next. I probably wouldn't of ever thought of that. It is so important to me. It shows that those people didn't put their entire hearts into Jesus, just thier minds.

i think that not only christians but ppl in genarl tend to follow the crowd instead of doing what they think is right.some ppl do it just to be "cool". i feel bad for those ppl cuz they are just living someone elses dreams
